Never leave my side
Love me, need me, never leave my side,
This, to him, over and over I cried.
He smiled at me, took it in stride,
And right to my face, he lied.
He promised me, til we grow old,
My side shall not grow cold.
I guess, all fair, he had to decide,
Between me, and romantic suicide.
It’s true, all bitter tears aside,
His choice made something die inside.
But seeing reality unfold,
Made me change my mind tenfold.
Not just his words, hitting me broadside,
But the way he never even tried.
I will say, this scene hurt my pride,
But for you, I’ll put it all aside.
Safety in your arms, you gently hold,
From the very first, you had me sold.
For it’s in you, my friend, that I confide,
In your warmth that I can hide.
I saw though my tears would not subside,
You showed me the Son, shining outside.
A miracle, a heart to behold,
A prayer answered; solid gold.
You, who found me by the wayside,
You, my knight, who lead me topside.
I’ll take the path, with God as guide,
With you, dear one, right beside.
