The Compulsive Loser

Every week is just the same
He’s coming here to play the game
Standing in a silent trance
His fate is sealed by a game of chance

Against the wall stands the machine
He’s been here before, knows the routine
The first of the coins, placed in the slot
The excitement causes his stomach to knot

He stares at the screen watching the reels
Winning and losing, not sure how he feels
A weeks worth of wages, gone in a flash
Never in doubt he would lose all of his cash

Plenty of times he could of left
Instead of allowing this legal theft
Safe in the knowledge of knowing he’d won
But unable to leave till the deed was done

It does not matter if another spin
Brings about the ultimate win
He cannot stop until all the money is lost
Always knowing the inevitable cost

A gambler has a chance to win
This is like throwing money in the bin
He’s not a gambler he will always lose
Addicted to this life, he can’t refuse.

True To Life

And one of the many addictions less often spoken about.
A guy i once knew was badly hooked, and would plough at least £200 a night into slot machines alone. Then go head for the casino's and clubs in London. He did ask for help eventually though.

Good write Andrew.
