hospital bed

In that hospital bed, you lay there
You’re surrounded by the people that love you best
They all do the best that they can to make you feel comfortable
We talk about past visits to this place
An accident here, an accident there but never something this serious
Scrapes and bruises never penetrated as deep as this
The idea of losing you, it’s in our thoughts
Unable to breathe yet you keep on joking
You wont eat your food for lack of appetite
Yet you’d never turn away the chocolate ice cream that they bring you
In that one moment of solitude you confide in me
“This place is depressing” you say
We say nothing more
I can’t stand to see you this way
