Owning

"You owe me a story" She said insistently. "Time is short, if you want me, I will be at the Inn of the Red Lantern, Hong Kong." For she was an aging concubine, and her life was not hers. She was pledged to another, and as a result, would have to bear the weight of all the oceans in world. Her sadness was there. Her hot tears flowed like rain, and burned holes into the carpet of night. She would always be known as a prostitute.

oops

add 'of the' before world, ignore 'in'..she said sheepishly..

Edit

Just edit it, so it's the way you want it.

However not a bad read. Well done.

Interesting

Do you write a lot of prose poems? I've written a couple. They're fun to do, but they live in a weird place - not quite poetry, but not quite prose either. I like them though. Reb Livingston has some interesting stuff over at Caffeine Destiny. Also Catherine Paquette over at No Tell Motel. I'm intrigued by the idea of ditching line breaks in my free verse, but it'll have to wait given my current obsession with iambic pentameter.
