The Same, but Different

Sometimes I am sleeping
While I am still awake-
My mind travels to far-off lands,
Abandoning its lesser counterpart.
I enter the realm
Where all things are possible,
And where, surprisingly enough,
You look at me and I am
No longer just a grain in the desert
Or a drop in the vast sea -
I am something much more;
I am the grain that completes the weight
And the last droplet to quench.
Though I am the same
As all those before me
And all those to come,
There is something still different.
All too suddenly, I awaken
And, though the vision is gone,
The feeling remains...
And I know it was real.
