A Heavy Heart

A heavy heart sags
in the chest,
not empty,
but full of what is gone,
and what is going away.

My first two,
with their mother,
one hundred miles from here.
My youngest, now leaving
with his mother.

The forest,
that somewhat
healed this aching,
clear cut,
gone.

A heavy heart sags
in the chest,
not empty,
but full of what is,
and what will never be.

What beauty, condensed into several dozen words, sewn together by a master seamstress.

Nicely compacted. A good use of language.

Your line, "not empty, but full of what is gone," is absolutely marvelous, the best descriptive measure of emptiness that I have ever read. Ezmerelda
