Brighter Than The Sun

Brighter Than The Sun
Barry B. Baker

I'm not Al Gore
But Global Warming is true
Since the day you were born

Remember your trip to the Artic?
Rock hard expansive glaciers began to melt
You acted so surprised and innocent
As if you truly didn't know
Why then did you depart the airplane
Wearing a tank top, short shorts and a pair of colorful espadrilles?

Water boils, the blood of a man boils
Flowers open, orchards ripen, flesh begins to tan
You are warmer than the Sun
You are brighter than the Sun
And you're closer

Remember your relatives up north?
Never wanted your visits in December
They lived for their snowy white Christmas
But winter cold diverted to the south
Your visit denied them their snow
Sweaters, mittens, and scarves weren't gifted for years

The Sun fears doing battle with you
The Sun knows it is eternal and knows we are not
The Sun takes leave, solar power is rightfully yours
A generation means nothing to the star

The Sun accepts you as warmer than it
The Sun accepts you as brighter than it
You conquer darkness, you thaw the freeze
And you're closer
