Martyr

Martyr

Spare me no pity.
The dawn is breaking,
The darkness ebbing like magnificent storm clouds
Driven valiantly away by the rising sun.
My martyrdom guarded eternally
By that saintly light
I stand at ready
Straight backed
Purse lipped
Arms wide to embrace the coming morning.
The light is warm on my hands
The hope burns in my heart
Do you think that I fear death?
Do you think that I fear the new day?
I fear nothing
Not the wind, or the rain, or the tribulations of this life.
I do not fear death, at the mercy of your sword
My courage is my faith
And my faith is my salvation.
Spare me no pity sir,
Because as the dawn breaks,
You will find, I am at peace.
