Gargoyles awake from distant sleep

And flock over the city

Off from bell towers, down they swoop

They hold no fruitful pity

Reeking havoc here and there

As people flood the grounds

Patient, the gargoyles, pick their prey

Scooping them all around

Swarming in packs, they multiply

Raiding through stores and shops

Picking off workers, priests, and such

Even the bumbling cops

A fat man flees, with food in hand

Chicken and butter cups

Though two sweep down to capture him

They can not pick him up

A woman fumbles for her keys

To get inside her car

But in an instant she was gone

Taken so high and far

They even go through bars and pubs

Grasping their prey, they throttle

But feisty drunkards fight them off

Hitting them with glass bottles

Sleeping so soundly, in their homes

People are rudely waken

Hanging, for dear-life to their beds

They're rattled and their shaken

Patrons having grand ol' times

At shows and masquerades

Are ghastly stricken by this breach

That's rained on their parades

The ghoulish goyles, splay out their wings

Chasing them helter skelter

The frightened crowd, so ramp-ed clings

And runs in search for shelter

The dogs all bark from their backyards

Enchained to their doghouse

But, when goyles swoop, they whimper in

As quiet as a mouse

Just knocking over garbage cans

And fizzing out street lights

No mortal man gets in their way

For here, they own the nights

The howling wolf, who calls so loud

And stands beneath the moon

Is briskly wisped away so swift

Then scattered and is strewn

Seeing the chaos stream across

The late night/ evening news

Medieval dread meets with the eye

These things, I can't infuse

Over the rooftops of my home

I hear a swelled crescendo

Slowly, I turn my head and see

A shadow at my window
