The Good Son
When he was just a weedy lad
All visually askew
I’d see cars slow and people stare
He’d give them quite a view
With razors on and flat top hair
All pricked up looking cool
He thought he was a gangster
Not some little kid from school
Then on he grew and entered
Each new phase along his life
He went and joined the navy
And he got himself a wife
The latter didn’t work out well
Some heart ache, pain and grief
But he pushed through to start anew
With courage and belief
A daughter too was part of this
Quite sad, all said and done
But when she grows she’ll see her dad
And they will be as one
Remiss, I should have mentioned
His new girl from far away
A spritely lass, and very cute
Who brightens up his day
So here he stands a grown up man
No longer just a boy
And I take pride in what I see
He fills my heart with joy
He has a rugged inner strength
He’s full of life and fun
And I will always care for him
Until my day is done
So celebrate with me and say
How lucky that I am
I started with a real weird kid
And now I’ve got a man
