For Joey
Words come easily to you and I as they do to most
But for him things are not so easily said.
Frustration reigns supreme and it’s simply easier to point to what he wants.
“Words, Words Use your Words” is the admonishment he hears
Finally, making that all-important eye contact, he takes a deep breath and musters up his confidence.
“crackers, please”
A smile comes to both our faces as I hug him and tell him he’s done well
And hand him the crackers.
For Joey. Autism hurts. Love, Patience and Hard Work heal.
