Evening Embers

Today is a bygone ember
alight in the evening sky,
taking with it chances
and every reason why.

While those who dare not stumble
watch in whimsical muse,
dreaming of the greater things
beyond the ones they choose.

They wonder at that ember
as it dances out of sight,
how such a brilliant spark
is engulfed by endless night.

Even then they will not reach
before the darkness settles in,
for fear of transient wounds
that show on lighted skin.

Eternally surrounded by darkness
no scar is ever shown,
while dreams of timid minds
are seldom ever known.

This is the first one of your pieces I have read and it is very well written and the message it conveys comes through quite well.
