Provoke Not Your Children To Anger
Do not with children
a contest of wills make-
for this only provokes
them to anger
and is a mistake.
you might prevail
for the moment but
you can not win-
it will just keep happening
time and again.
Instead of contention
firm instruction is best-
provide an acceptable
alternative
and avoid the test.
Give them a substitute
to claim as their own-
we can not dictate
to them when
they are grown.
Or force on them
life’s path they must take-
nor choose for them
the decisions
they make.

Hi MICHAELINE,
First, I would like to thank you for reading my poem and for your kind comments.
Secondly, as this is a poetry show case and not a critical form, I will not attempt a technical critique of your work, but only a qualitative personal opinion.
I have just finished reading your posted poems and find them to be very expressive of what must be very deep-seated personal life experiences. I particularly liked "A Mother's Son" as it is very expressive of the sentiment I attempted to covey concerning my own now grown and married daughter in "Happy Highways Where Once We Went."
I do have one suggestion however. Use additional care in checking for typos and other errors before posting. Lord knows that I am guilty of not doing this myself on occasion and have had to go back and edit a post after the fact. Personally, I do not consider typos to be a big deal, but some readers do.
