Africa is on the map, sure enough,
but its people seldom take a seat
in our thoughts; they’re second fiddles
to the beasts: tiger, lion, hippo, rhino.
When we see
a Shetland pony
a man dressed in a kilt
will pull up a chair inside
our psyches, but when
we clap eyes on a giraffe
all we see is a long neck.
Men with spears never walk pass
our front gates; they don’t
have oil nor nukes --
they are nobodies! But it’s a shame
that they suffer as they do.
