i lay in the darkness / that covers us all
counting the stars / then watching them fall
searing my mind / as another appears

as the light of the mind / darkens and grays
awakening memories / that had faded away
the volatile feelings / that fled from that light
drag me more deeply / into darkness and night

remembering shadows / that woke with the dawn
nightmares that left / their mark and were gone
long before thought / could enter the mind
the child built walls / to be hidden behind

but a child knows nothing / of what he creates
unaware of the outcome / of choices he makes
now he's eats what has grown / from what had been sown
beneath the stars counting / dead and alone
