Tanka
The first is but five,
The second must be seven,
The third, five again,
Line four and five are equal,
Both are seven syllables.

great poem, dave
maybe you can start the tanka craze. Boy, do I now know those rules. I will be counting in my sleep. It's strange, I read up on tankas on the net, and they gave many samples that had fewer than 31 syllables. Maybe Americans have changed the rules to make it easier?
Your poem is so original - it seems simple - but it's really not, and you do a wonderful job.
