Live On

The wind was warm upon my face
As I looked out to the west.
The sky was blue and bright above
On this gorgeous day of rest.

The waves crashed loud beneath my feet,
And birds sang out above.
Is this how it really feels
When remembering lost love?

Her face hovered for a moment there,
Seeming oh so real.
My mind’s eye could almost touch it
In my thoughts and zeal.

Those sweet lips, that bright smile,
And soft-as-velvet hair…
I sighed so softly once again,
“If only she were here.”

I felt the sand beneath my feet;
Each grain between my toes.
I felt the wind softly kiss me,
And I watched some does.

The tallest doe, so strong and slender,
Put her head up near my hand
As if to say, “Come pet me, sir,
"For I make no demand.”

I scratched her head as I sat down
And cuddled her fine face.
And in her eyes, so stark and clear,
Was a loving grace.

There is a feeling like no other
When you’re one with nature;
When peace and hope and joy so calm
Teach you to mature.

A love was lost, but I’m alive!
The world will go on spinning.
And there’s a peace that overwhelms,
That says, “Go on – keep grinning!”

The doe jerked up! She heard a sound.
She darted with the others.
An ever constant crashing sound
Grew as came her brothers.

As young bucks played while ocean crashed,
The sun went off to bed.
I felt so glad to be alive!
This day took all my dread.

No matter how bad it gets,
Or how she broke your heart,
The sun will always shine for you
If you will do your part:

Live on. Love on. Go on steady,
Just like ocean waves,
The breeze that dances through the trees,
And the sun that shares it rays.

You’ll find that joy again, my friend,
In that unforgettable moment
When you know that life is not just you,
And for you, there’s no replacement.
