Falls Flow to Winter

Falls Flow to winter.

By Debborah Jensen

Falls confetti litters the dormant carpet.

Yellows, reds, burgundies, oranges, all with interesting shapes.

Shapes and color fill the eye till they ascend.

Stark grey skys, with various shades of browns impaling it.

Barren deathlike sticks, jutting the suns eyes so it winks.

Upward glances cause colors to drain as a precursor to winters embrace.

Cold winds push the litter about, to be bagged or sucked up.

Now nothing but crushed leaves, and brownish grass remain.

The color of death, till the white shroud covers everything,

making frail fantasies come to life in shades of white, grey and black.

A negative to the picture of life.

Light a fire, cheery orange, blue, red, and take comfort in colors inside and wait

for life to return.
