Sleeping Fires

Poetry is like a sleeping fire
when read between the lines
it melts the subtle into explicit

talent is like a sleeping fire
when the embers are stocked
it crackles with hot burning coals

indecision is like a sleeping fire
when laziness is whipped to herd
it leaps from idle procrastination

love is like a sleeping fire
when the chemistry is right
it ignites and needs no catalyst

hatred is like a sleeping fire
when not checked in time
it begets deadly conflagration

the future is like a sleeping fire
when not planned with wisdom
it burns the path of serendipity

culture is like a sleeping fire
when not nurtured with pace
it erodes indigenous identity

the earth is a like sleeping fire
when not cleansed with sanity
it heats up to global warming

success is like a sleeping fire
when not stocked with fervour
it dies with inevitable collapse

ambition is like a sleeping fire
when there is no firebreak
it degenerates into misuse

the mind is like a sleeping fire
when its fertile soil is uncensored
it flames into ridiculous deviants

power is like a sleeping fire
when allowed to burn for long
it corrodes virtues with whims
