Nepotism

Nepotism

The lamb perceives a wolf,
Its dreadful, bloodstained fangs
Awash with icy, moonlit lust,
Its heart with hungry, hateful pangs.
And yet this lamb allows it in;
This lamb receives the beast as kin.

When corruption raises undeserving
Candidates to power and advantage

For the sake of wedding
Rings and blood relations;

When a child must die because a
Drunken binge was more important;

Where a herd of men can look a woman
In the eye and bellow: “Spread your hind-legs”;

I see the bloodstained teeth,
I hear the frightful howl.

And yet my faith compels my hands
To treat the ones I fear as those I love.
I need not fear their curses or demands.
A force, far stronger, shields my life.
Let faith enable me to love and trust;
Until my skin and bones return to dust.
