Tonight I pray,
Heavenward with all my might.
Dear Lord I pray,
Be with my family tonight.
I read my Bible now I pray,
Help me every hour.
Through troubles I pray,
You are my power.
Now and always I pray,
Be with me out there.
I’ll always pray,
Be with me here.
Protect me this night.
To God I pray,
Give me rest, Thank you Lord, I pray.

I penned this during my brief visit in the US Army, hence A Private’s Prayer. However many people thought it meant “A Private Prayer”. However this poem is about the struggles all military personnel face on a daily basis, not just lower ranking, so I changed it to the current title. Let us pause and pray for our military.
