Everything Lost
Isn’t that my first love?
Standing at the cook-book stand
No baggage here, between me and her
She’s holding a little girl by the hand
Hey, it’s been a long time
Fancy ever coming face to face
It must be at least four years
Since we went our separate ways
And is this your daughter?
She looks awfully nice
And very much like you
Jet black hair and hazel eyes
Your husband’s a dentist?
I’m glad you married well
Me? I’m a struggling poet
Hoping his books will sell
Can’t you see it from my clothes
Washed for many years
No, I’ve not settled down
Same old hopes, same old fears
Let me talk to your kid
Hi Sweetheart, How are you?
Your mum and I are old friends
It’s very nice to meet you too
Thank you Sir, you look nice
An old friend of my mum, you say?
We’re shopping here for stuff
To make a cake, for my birthday
She’s very nice, I like your kid
And you look just like before
As for me, I’m a little thin
Fewer visits to the grocery store
She said I hope you one day find
Whatever or whoever you seek
I’m very happy I have a daughter
I love her, she turns four next week
She and her kid, say goodbye
And I’m alone, left here to stand
As she leaves, taking what is me
Holding on to her mother’s hand

Controled emotion
Dolan,
You served this piece well with your controled emotion. Isn't it funny the different roots we all take when we move on. The internal conversations helped the piece speak to the reader.
In line 3 of stanza 2 I believe you menat to say "at" rather than "al".
Your buddy,
Pete
Typo error correction and addition of another verse
Thanks pete for pointing out the error. I have added another verse for those who cant make the 4 year connection:
She any her kid, say goodbye
And I’m alone, left here to stand
As she leaves, taking what is me
Holding on to her mother’s hand
As usual, I'm thankful for your advise.
