I Knew Her Well
I Knew Her Well
Last night we said
Our last goodbye
I didn’t fight
She didn’t cry
“Paalam”, she said
As she closed the door
I didn’t say goodbye
Adieu, DON’T GO!
This summer madness
Has been put to rest
It didn’t go through fire
Didn’t face the test
Of living a life
Of regimented days
Where time spoken for
Is months away
A one night stand
That lasted too long
Fuelled by desire,
Music and song
Nobody lost
And nobody won
Everything’s forgotten
Under the eastern sun
I’ll pack up my bags
And board that plane
Sober and thoughtful
Incredibly sane
But in my memory
There will remain
Fragments of her
Recalled in pain

Extremely intelligent and well written
Dolan,
You have more than one turn of phrase in this piece that brings the story straight home and sets the piece apart from lesser efforts. I am pleased that I had the opportunity to read and will be seeking out more of your wisdom in other pieces.
Well done,
Pete
I knew Her Well
Pete,
I think my heart was speaking here, and got it right, first time.
Thank you for those kind words
