I Remember When
I remember reciting my one, two, three
Perched upon my mother’s knee
While the radio played a sweet refrain
I wish I were there, once again
I remember days spent in school
Trying to break each and every rule
Hoping to avoid the prefect’s cane
I wish I were there, once again
I remember the day I first kissed
She and I, in the morning mist
Both of us were not really sane,
I wish I were there, back again
I remember my old college days
Debates and ill produced plays
Sorrow, angst and endless pain
I wish I were there, once again
I remember days when I was poor
And real estate was in what friends wore
That grass they say was better then
I wish I were there, once again
I remember all those days gone by
When I always asked the question why
But now I know it, clear and plain
I can't ever go back there again

i don't know, maybe i'd go
i don't know, maybe i'd go back to part of the past, nicely said
Thank you
Thanks for pointing out what I could'nt state clearly, The last line has been changed to say what I mean
You've been a great help,

Reminiscing...
Its nice to reminisce, upon past times, because it allows us to take stock of where our lives are now. I woulden't want to go back either!

Last Line has bee changed
Debs,
I have changed the last line to say i can't go back again. Some memories are painful, and others have an innocence that I lost and would love to regain. That's worth wishing for, I think.
Thanks for your comment

I Think Your Right..
I can see that aswell, and I was a bit quick to comment without thinking it through then. I like the change you have made to this.

You can't go back
returning would never be the same we are not the person we were then and I for one am not sure I would ever want to live some of it over.Dolan I like it great food for thought.

Stunning
As I read your work, I can't help but to drift away into my past. I like your creative way of saying that we need to cherish our memories because once it gone... we can never change it. Love your repetition with "I wish I were there, once again".
Thanks
I'm glad you liked it

very lyrical poem
This sounds like the lyrics to a song, in fact, it would be beautiful. I love the repeating refrain. The young want to be old, they don't spend enough time appreciating what they have now! Thanks for a very well designed poem.

Thanks Joyce
I was thinking of my mum when this idea came to me yesterday, and I thought I'd put something in words.
It's nice for you to convey your appreciation

A truthfulness not to be debated
Dolan,
You are so correct in realizing that the memorable moments of the past are lovely to reflect on but they can never be repeated. I'm always glad that I still have my memories, both good and bad and I hope that I have learned from them.
