Green
For McNeil
(December 1990 - December 4, 2007)
McNeil has green paws from the first cut
through spring. He can't resist
herding mistress and mower, and
even when I make him sit, wag my finger
and warn of an uncle's toes lost
to the blade, he just wags his tail
and waits for the next swath.

I wrote this awhile back; he inspired several poems, he did, and I hope they allow a reader to see his character. He was an interesting dog, to be sure, and hardy enough to have 17 good years. I wouldn't recomment a blue heeler/Australian shepherd cross, though, to anyone but the strong-willed and determined. Heh.
