To Kris On Cupid's Day
Not all 100 hearts are valentines
lined up outside your door,
so call them in for tea and cakes
while I explain some more.
10 are the hearts of couriers,
each one brave and true,
bearing public proclamations
of the love I have for you.
25 are the hearts of fairies
with gold and silver wings,
who carry from me to you
a beautiful emerald ring.
15 are the hearts of woodland imps,
whom you see standing there,
that I've sent with wild flowers
to braid into your hair.
19 are the hearts of troubadors,
with voices pure and sweet,
to sing the songs of love I wrote
and lay them at your feet.
30 are the hearts of Kings and Queens,
I met along the way,
who wish to meet my Princess
on this...our Cupid's Day.
1 is the heart of a beggar,
standing at the end of the line,
...the beggar is me.. and I'm begging...
Will you be my Valentine?
