Up the Down Side

I feel a world within me
unrelated to the one on which I stand.
I am the universe to the world inside.
I shape the land. I roll the tide.

The world outside took no joy
at my birth, nor will it weep as I lay down,
but the world within will shudder and die
for its fate is bound tightly to mine

I stand in two separate worlds
with no bridge from one to the other,
and unless I learn to live inside out
I will smother in my world of doubt.
