The Last Night

Come
To the secret gray door
Linger
For a moment on the thresh hold
Race
Your heart goes faster as you plunge in to the
Dark
Hushed and scared hands flare out
Searching
For the switch, for escape, for comfort
Realizing
The power is out in your sanctuary
Moving
Through the dark rooms easily
Slowly
You undress and lay on your bed
Worried
You heard a sound and say it was nothing
Realization
Someone unwelcome is in your apartment
Pain
You see the face, then switch nose, pulling agony
White
Nothing any more
