Overcast
The sins of gluttony
Satisfied and full
The signs were there
But complacency stared
A hole through our soul
The hunger is still there
That's what we say
Like a drunk who
Can see the beauty of sobriety
But remains stuck in yesterday
One last drink today
Repeating the same lies
Just to make us feel better
The end is coming
Prop up another defense
Cause loneliness is 2 hard to bare.
This house is cold
The furnace is working fine
We're biding our time
Until the inevitable
Give me a shovel
Got to dig ourselves out
If we are 2 survive
This question so tried and true
How badly do we want it?
The answer clear as a bell
You're off to the desert
I'm gonna pack it indoors
Sun is shining
Snow will be soon arriving
Will you wait for me?
I'm full of questions
And suspected hot air
I love you deeply
That's not a surprise
If someone dares hurt you
Measure me for cuffs
But being in love
Is the stuff of romantic yarns
We once internalized its every strand
Perhaps, we should have been friends
But we can't be charged as fools
For daring to raise it up a notch
There can be no regrets
Lord knows we tried
As we face another day of indecision
Struggling to find a silver lining
Within overcast skies.
