Pilgrim's Prayer

Don't take it personally
When I decide to dress you down
Rip apart your defenses
Snatch away your illusions
Because I'm only aiming the gun at myself
I'm your reflection
You're my mirror
I can destroy myself
Far more then you can incinerate me
Call it envy
Something I want
That only you can possess
I'll grant you an educated guess
You'll never find the answer
I'm a maze of contradictions
You're simple and pure as December snow
That's going to bury me
If I don't discard the resentments
That I wear like a badge of perverted honor
I don't like the taste of human flesh
Left that to Jeffery Dahmer.

The path to enlightenment
Is a road taken by few
That includes you
You neglect to participate
In the firestorm, the chaos
Of a declining society
Hellbent on putting their stamp
Upon the forehead of negativity
You just float
Above the madness
Contentment on your face
Always striving to put a positive spin
On the human race
While I'm bogged down in details
Always seeing the error of humanity's ways
Including my own.

I've heard many times
There's a happy home in the sky
If we behave upon this mortal coil
You've already arrived
I just slog along blindly
Praying I can see
Your reflection in the mirror
Instead of mine.
