Runner Up
We're dying by inches
Cells refuse to regenerate
Even scientists are frustrated
At the loss of a cure
For a broken heart
It sounds like a teenage lament
But somewhere along the path
To intimacy
We forgot the charms of simplicity
Complicit in complexity
That's our sad fate...
It's never 2 late
To stand back and reassess
What went wrong
But you know damn well
It's a clever way of avoiding the truth
Pain must be endured
Where it was once so clear
How in the hell did the view become blurred?
A simple stroll through the woods
Used to mean something
We enjoyed the spark in our eyes
Basked in each other's sighs
Holding hands, kissing like
It was about to go out of style
It seems the more miles we racked up
The more we took each other for granted
As we gaze up at a tree proud and tall
A seed was planted once
But we didn't take care
Ignore instead of nurture
Destroy instead of repair
Leaving an awareness
That desires a response
It hurts 2 much
It doesn't have 2 die
But we're barely surviving
Upon honorable intentions
And empty promises
Waiting for the consolation prize
That never appears...
