Still I Rise

Fear, a poison that must be purged
Searching for courage that wasn't there
In a crowd of strange faces staring
As if you were an alien born somewhere else...

Looking for protection in a sea of vipers
Smelling blood determined to exploit kindness
Preacher man says mend your ways
Cause you're going to hell one day
Forgive me for soiling your cloth
We're already knee deep in the wasteland.

Don't leave me stranded on the wrong side of town
Just for a laugh or to test my survival
You're pretending to be a shining star in the revival
But a lousy wretch where blind eyes can't see
They smell your recipe of misery
A feast for the chosen one
As we're about to hurl...

We're running on borrowed time
Tomorrow may be our last
Trying not to cast resentment
So we can find peace in the next life
Paranoia is a knife twisting
Evil ravaging our insides
A sin we can't repent
We're getting too old for childish games
At least we're aware...Somehow we'll get by
You can stay down...I shall rise.
