Story of the Reminder

The shabby picture of me,
Valued like a raggedy, toddler blanket,
My hair long then,
My smile modest,
Reminder of that summer,
Nineteen when we met,
And spent scorching days together,
Both of us lived to be near each other,
My skin, eyes, full of life,
My little smile not telling of the marvelous things,
Year before the picture, a baby seed waiting to be mature,
When he and I met, a radiant flower,
Looking back, I know I will be a sturdy oak tree soon,
The picture reminder that we will stand together,
Our roots interlaced,
Even though it is only a picture of me
