Parting with Dignity
And so my love has left me now as sure I knew she must
Gone toward her future in a swirling haze of dust
I’m sure that she once loved me true though she’d hardened as of late
She needed space, she wanted time, she had to seek her fate
And I am left no self respect, for I begged her not to go
On my knees I crawled to her for sure I loved her so
I love her still; the tears I weep are private unto me
But still they are an awful slight upon my dignity

Keisha,
Thanks for your comment, glad you liked the piece.
I wrote this as a sort of double quatrain. It encompasses a single thought. Whenever I write something like this it happens kinda quick, like a mild mind explosion and I tend not to think about it to much or expound on the thought. Glad it left you wanting more. If you liked it try "Never" ...same sort of format.
Or, for a single thought my favorite poem of all time "Daybreak by John Donne" which follows. Hope you like it.
Daybreak
STAY, O sweet and do not rise!
The light that shines comes from thine eyes;
The day breaks not: it is my heart,
Because that you and I must part.
Stay! or else my joys will die
And perish in their infancy.
John Donne
Love and respect,
Gabe
