Suicide in Hampshire

On the bank of a chalk stream night bright and clear
Where herons stalk and swans appear
Through morning mist at break of day
A woman threw her life away

Had she like some, lost sight of hope
Lost her love – couldn’t cope
What might have led her to decide
To lay down by that riverside

And laying there ‘neath God’s own sky
And with his angels standing by
Took poisons cruel ‘til life was done
And the stars from all the heavens gone

this is by far the most

this is by far the most beautiful and poetic piece of writing about suicide i have ever read. thank you, this is fantastic.

Suicide in Hampshire

Thanks for your comments Elise.
This was inspired by an actual suicide that took place not far from my home, I witnessed the aftermath as I was out walking my dogs one morning. The police had arrived and the poor woman had obviously pre-planned her actions as she was in a cheap blue sleeping bag to ensure that she stayed warm whilst she expired. The spot she chose is very beautiful and for weeks after there were little poseys of flowers left anonymously by sympathisers.
I'm so glad you liked the piece though. Thanks again and good luck,

Gabe
