The Window
When I was young, and strong, and free;
My hair not thin and gray;
T’was limitless, what I could be,
Life a game I’d yet to play.
I strolled the beach’s golden sand,
Alone for hours I walked;
‘Till I met a girl, and took her hand,
And we spent the day and talked.
We talked for hours of deepest things,
We talked through dark of night;
We felt the warmth that morning brings,
Of love, and not just light.
The days went by, then months, then years,
We’d found our other half;
And once a year, we’d come back here,
To stroll and love and laugh.
But in old age, I can face the truth,
By this window where I sit;
Of the girl, my life, and of my youth—
I’ve just imagined it.
Dead my limbs, from childhood,
Paralysis doth bind,
And from this chair I’ve never stood,
Loving only in my mind.

Thank you. Yes, I'm new here, and I'm not a poet. I just wanted to try this out for people who know poems. I am a struggling novelist. This is the only poem I've ever written, and look, it's got a favorable comment. Wow, I'm a success!
Again my favorite word Awesome
This may have been your first but I hope it will not be your last.It is very very good.

yes,i am more into prose and
yes,i am more into prose and short stories myself...and i know i am weak as far as poetry is concerned but there some helpful people here,you'll get to know them by and by and some very good poems too...so i find myself coming and trying just a few silly shots at poetry...and when you get favourable reviews,its always nice
The Window
I have no idea if the poem I wrote falls into any accepted category or not. I had a dream that inspired the poem, and I doubt I'll ever write another. Poetry is hard, I should probably stick with books.
don't worry
I write what I call a in your face style with a few strange turns attemped at humor so there is no right or wrong just go with the feeling

Your Not A Poet..?
I think you are! and judging by your first verse which was beautifully expressed and which drew me in, you have alot to say about life aswell.
