Kushiro poems
In this quiet room
only the TV and my pen
show any motion.

The ocean
is magnificent
sun sparkling
on its calm surface.

Another gorgeous, sunny day.
Three hawks circle silently overhead.
—Kushiro, January 2008
Snowbird
Today the old red macaw
is on his perch munching seeds
as the arctic wind whips past.
Does this out-of-place bird
Dream of steaming tropical
Forests?

The first one is one of my favorites; I like the quietness of it. Thanks for the comment.
Where is Kushiro
You're right, Kushiro is in Japan; it's on the south east coast of Hokkaido, which is the big island just north of Japan's main island. I live in Sapporo, Hokkaido's capital, which is on the western side of the island. My wife has family in Kushiro, and we were visiting there prior to our move to Japan. I'm glad you l iked "Snowbird"; such an inconguous sight thee with snow all around. He's still there, and looking more comfortble in June when we last visited.
