The Music or the Poems?
Written by Joyce Greene

Is music the soul of poetry
Or is poetry music's soul?
Which tugs more at the heart strings,
The music or the poems?
Both are potent tools
To stir the human heart,
Words firing inwards
And notes burning deep.
Each can move the hearer
Close to ecstasy,
Or leave him weeping
In darkest misery.
Many might say it's better
To separate the two,
But when they sing together,
The harmony is true.

A cut above
Great work, Joyce, this is a cut above. Keep 'em coming! Personally, I think poetry is the music of the soul, and the soul of music.
thanks, crooklyn
your comment is beautiful! I do love the combination - sometimes I feel like I'm flying when I listen to music (with words, of course).

I made a couple of changes and think it sings a little better. I'm still having some trouble with rhythm.
Thanks for the nice words.

Great Write Joyce
I love music in Poetry, and think the combination of the two, is indeed bliss. If you can really 'feel' a poem, then thats a wonderful thing!

so true
Your words ring very true....poetry and music is such a beautiful, amazing combination. I love poems which ponder questions such as these. Personally, I think poetry is music's soul, but there are many different perspectives to explore with that. Great job!! =]
