Tums
A weekend lover,
I need time to recover
From the daily grind,
But with weekends, housework comes,
Too much stress, I need some Tums!

Hmmm....
The first time I read this as a lover someone has only on weekends and that it's actually work to sustain the relationship and I thought to myself, "Self, if a lover ever causes you to need Tums, find a new one". The next time through I felt it as someone who loves weekends for the "rest" it brings and thought to myself, "Self, if you ever need Tums after a weekend, find a maid". Thanks for leading me down these roads and deciding I need a housecleaner, and a new lover. That will be much better overall. Then I can just play! As ever, Joyce, your writing brings out wonderful feelings.

Oh, and you never did answer about the hot dogs. Talk about needing Tums! LOL!!
thanks, Justin
You are a wonderful literary critic - I enjoy everything you say! Reading one of your comments is like reading a literary effort - great work, Justin. Also, thanks for the comment! About the hot dogs - I did reply, just tonight to that comment - I like hot dogs - but if I ate the regular ones, not the turkey ones, I would definitely need Tums! lol

Me too
Like Justin, I thought the poem was going to be about someone who makes love only on the weekends. When I realized it was about looking forward to weekends, only to realize they hold as much work and stress as weekdays, I laughed! This one is very cute, with its double entendre. -- MS
Thanks, MS
You've got it in a nutshell. I wonder what it would be like to just sit back and relax all weekend - never happen! Maybe when I'm ninety-two? Thanks for reading and commenting! joyce
