Play...then & Now
Oh... the jumps we made
To reach a rope the rivals clench.
Who knew we could jump higher
Than the arms can stretch.
Catch a breath and you will be 'it'
So vast is our playground far away our reach.
No one said in the track of life
You’ve got to be hale.
But someone said you'll carry the day
And all dreams in a palm & a nail.
Gone are the days when 50 cents
Buy snacks with cola and savings to spare.
Decades after dances and poems,
Theater of being goes on often unfair.
The Biology teacher, remembered her most
She said ciggy will corrupt the body.
Saw her smoky face before every stick
They said lung cancer in the funerary.
Chemistry...Physics...huh?
Cannot fathom fusions & quantum.
But Red & Green makes brown
Oil and tempera an impossible concoction.
Rules..Rules...Rules... all by the book.
From walk to talk...play to graduation day.
The guy in the building said "Wear ID."
Hated that book but in absence disarray.
So long ago dreams, infatuation, witlessness
Excusable naiveté landing at the chief's office.
So long ago, unwanted guidance everywhere
Today searching yet none has poignant brilliance.
Ahh… revel in the coming of age,
Time to See old faces, aches gone missing.
Resolve to flaunt or shroud life’s stage
Treasures of childhood hark back laughing.
The age has come to reminisce
Ropes & games, BFFs & rivalry.
Fling the nightmarish calendar
Holiday to Never-never land recurrently.
Wonder then...for only then
Can we truly play again.
