Childhood Memory ......

Expression today in light and cloud
An the way the shadows play
Shaped a memory of a lonely child
Lost in a sea of ripening corn.
A day the early mist floated the highland
Horned cattle like Viking ships at anchor.
I gave wonder then why the sound in thunder
And how many horses pulled the sun
And just who drove the yellow globe at night
Like some dancing clown clear across the sky.
And whose wet eyes wept winter's frozen lakes
And the colors in butterflies wings, because
They ate the pretty flowers?
So many other things that day held no answers
To that child that lay in a field of whispering corn
The distant memory breathed its chosen
Shadows like a ghost wind in the mirror of my mind
Today, walked in on me gentle as a baby's breath..
