Starting A Day
I have.through life to the present
Searched for truth, rarely did I consult my fears
Nor gave force to negative moods that walked in on me
Always I held fast to some unfulfilled potential...
Searching through countless religions, gurus, books
And other spiritual paths with exciting influential newness
Many years back...in the 60's, I came across a man by the name
Of Gurdjieff, and the 'work' which really means ' work' on yourself.
Here, i thought, is a system that holds the ultimate wealth
And main purpose for 'beingness', in short a means to become 'awake'
To 'know oneself' and by special movements, set to certain musical scales,
And various tasks that balances the 3 centers within. This was new
Exciting stuff, one of the important factors of the 'work' for me,
Was to 'remember myself' this is a difficult process, and a concept
Of the 'work' equally difficult to grasp.Sitting at this computer a few nights back
Facing multiple unresolved issues in my life, I asked of myself of the'I'
Presenting, -and we have many many 'I's- where have i gone wrong and
What do i need to do, the answer was swift and immediate.
You did not 'remember yourself' Gurdjieff immediately came to mind.
There was an compelling force to find, perhaps, those of like mind
And if perchance a Gurdjieffin group existed here in New Zealand. I also
Needed to read volume 2 'PSYCHOLOGICAL COMMENTARIES' on the teachings
Of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky, penned by a Maurice Nicholl.
I found a group, presumably in the 'work' and met a man at a coffee bar
Who obviously had some authority in the group, of 6 people!
This man had the book I required, and I talked a lot, and in the process
Revealed knowledge informed, that this man had no intention of allowing me
To meet the group, sure, he loaned me the book, and the question I asked of myself
Was clearly answered. I reurned the book early this morning to his front door-step.
Why, because again, inner knowledge, -intuition- told me that this
Man needed to talk with me further to establish perhaps they, the group, may
Not have what I am looking for!! Can you imagine that? Here was an extraordinary
Man by name of Gurdjieff, who had produced a system for man/woman to
Come to a place within the 'self' by means of the'work' whereby, like He titled
One of his books..'Life is Real Only Then, when "I AM".
A few moments ago, the man I met at the coffee bar, who lent me the book,
Rang me, with the words 'we need to meet again an talk .
I informed this man that I had no need of any 'further talk' whereby he
Could reach an opinion he already held. So, I wished him a beautiful day- 'wishing'
things has a special meaning in Gurdjieff's system. And I put the telephone
Down on this man. And here comes the main essence of this piece of prose
Be very careful how you start your morning, and what seeds you are planting
For what the rest of your day may hold. Was I wrong? Was I harsh,.Was I rude.
I think not, because this man and his group had lost their significance.
And there came to mind yet another profound thought, it belongs to Gurdjieff.
It said something like this ,-'One comes to the brink of an abyss which
Can't be crossed by human reason, and one feels the superfluosity and uselessness
Words have become... It also answered the requirements of this man with
Hs group of 6, and one can well see why there is only 6 in his group. Added
To this thought a few seconds ago by way of a missal flashed across my screen
Its essend...'Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but what
Is still possible for you to DO.' Some of my fellow poets may make a comment
On this piece of prose, my learned son would say 'Thank you for this piece of
Usless information.' Please do not miss the main point of what I say, said by a
Henry Ward Beecher...'The first hour is the rudder of the day' and from
The Book of Books- The Bible......at daybreak ,Lord you hear my voice; at daybreak Lord
I plead my case to You and watch....Whatever one may read into what I say here
I hope the name Gurdjieff will strike a cord within you try not to give credence
To what some may say about this remarkable man, because he too was baptized a Christian
And buried in accordance with its principiles, and more important still
In his teachings the Gurdjieffin Way can make of one a better Christian.
Have a great day.
