summer

Yesterday
I rode my bike up the hill
so I could ride it back down
faster.

I picked all the flowers
from the wild patch of clover
in the front yard
and I didn't get stung by a bee.

I walked to Shelly's house
to see if she had cleaned her room
and was finally un-grounded.

We ate popsicles her mom made in ice trays
and walked on our tip-toes
because we were movie stars.

We ran all the way to Dawn's house
to ask if she wanted to be in our new club.
The Movie Star Club.

We stayed out til dark
and only argued once
and nobody cried
and when we heard our moms call we said our club would meet again
tomorrow.

I hope we remember the secret handshake.

aw..memories

this brought back such fond memories of being a young girl in my neighborhood too...on a summer night... especially..staying out past dark...walking on tip toes cuz you were movie stars...so cute . i love your poem

Thank you!!

It's kind of silly...the other day we were talking about bee stings, and I remembered getting stung like seven times one year - I never wore shoes if I could help it. Suddenly I could see those summers clear as day...not the bee stings, but everything else, and I had to write it down because I didn't want to forget again. I'm glad it brought back memories for someone else!
