Violence
She sat alone in her room.
Tears stream down her face,
as she hears the front door open.
His footsteps loud and clear.
She pulls the covers to her face,
hiding in such fear.
Damp, become her sheets,
as she strains her big brown eyes.
She closes them;
And past hauntings fill her mind.
-
His screams fill her head.
He throws her to the wall.
Her head throbs.
Whimpers and pleads echo from her throat,
as his fists conquer her body.
Her soul slowly deteriorates.
He screams some more.
Telling her she’s a mistake,
how ugly she is,
and how much he hates her.
He leaves the room,
She grows more afraid,
as he returns with a bat.
He swings upward,
as she cowers on the floor.
She closes her eyes tight,
As it comes crashing to her face,
And everything goes blank.
She opens her eyes.
She’s still in her room,
She shakes with fright.
The footsteps come closer.
She bows her head in prayer,
begging God to protect her.
Her door opens.
She freezes.
The face is not familiar,
it seems more friendly and kind.
He introduces himself,
as someone to help.
She runs to him,
and hugs him,
thanking God for his protection.
The man, her savior,
explains her father was arrested.
Her face lights up,
a smile stretches across her face,
as she thinks of the happiness to come.
