Fairy Tale

Friendship was where it began
Companions turned soulmates
Too young to understand
In steps Fate
Uncle Sam imprisons
Ambition consumes
No one there to listen
Bad decisions, mistrust blooms
A new generation is born
Cyber romance turns to matrimony
Years pass, hearts become forlorn
Outward appearances decidedly phony
Chance meeting, love prevails
Or so it goes in the fairy tales

This is not a Shakespearean

This is not a Shakespearean sonnet, but it could be.

Misinformed

I was merely referring to the format. I am a little ignorant on poetic form and when I did a search to find more on the topic I found a site that informed me that the 14 line ababcdcdefefgg rhyme pattern was a Shakespearean form of the sonnet. Of course I do know enough of Shakespeares literature to know this is not similar in the least as far as wording or actual talent. I was merely making an effort to be as accurate as possible. However, I would be interested to know how you think this 'could be' a Shakespearean sonnet.

The rhyme and line count

The rhyme and line count matches the sonnet form which is why I said that it could be a Shakespearean sonnet. However the lines also need to be in iambic pentameter. The website you visited may not have talked about that in detail. If you check out the blurbs of wisdom section on the pffa forum there are some excellent threads on metrical forms. It's worth checking out because IP can be a lot of fun. Just remember it goes: da DUM da DUM da DUM da DUM da DUM. Hope that helps. If you have any questions feel free to PM me, but just remember there are people around these here parts whose knowledge is light years ahead of mine. Cheers!

Congrats
