So, as I understand it you are running to ensure the the goal you have set in place does not meet any interference from the imposition of new and possibly contrary thoughts. Does that pretty much sum up the theme of this piece or am I reading it all wrong?

i guess you are right- this piece is about running blindly toward some goal, not letting life have its full effect on you.
