shadow of addiction

the telephone is squalling,
the first shadow of the day,
his addiction left in history
but his rent is coming late,
shadows of addiction
a soul stranded in the past,
he cant focus on the future,
with a shadow on the glass
shadows of addiction
a trembling hand today
reaching for a little light
for the promise that he made,
another day is over,
a friend has helped him out,
but soon the shadows of addiction
will cloud his mind with doubt,
the telephone is squalling
but the shadows have seen the light,
a muzzle flash says AMEN
to his final prayer one night .
