Fire in the Sky

When the day’s nearly over and evening is nigh
I sit on my verandah and gaze at the sky
As the red fades to pink and the colours grow faint
It’s moments like this that I wish I could paint

If I was Namitjara or maybe Ken Done
Or maybe even a Darcy Doyle clone
I’d look at the colours with an artist’s trained eye
And capture forever the fire in the sky

As the sky turns from red, through yellow and blue
And a marvellous pallet of many toned hue
That changes so quickly as day’s last light fades
An ongoing picture of swift changing shades

Then just when you think it’s all over too soon
It’s replaced by the breathtaking sight of the moon
Rising up in its splendour to welcome the night
In a sky of black velvet with diamonds so bright

So I linger some more in the moon’s soft pale light
And as I sit here on this bright starry night
My mind starts to wander to thoughts of Van Gogh
And the ultimate artist who first made this show

FIRE IN THE SKY

A prerequisite to be a painter is observation. This poem indicates that all you lack is paint and canvas, but instead you have used a different medium and the result is a picture as beautiful as any painting. Lovely. Sincerely, Ezmerelda

Thank you Ezmerelda

I wrote that poem a little time ago when I lived somewhere else. Those sunsets are what I miss most about that place. Thanks again, your comment is much appreciated, you have a lovely way with words.

SUNSETS

I live on the east end of a beautiful lake..sunsets are an important part of my life...a quick story..I was once living in a city and one evening I was at work and the sun went down across the street over a huge mall, and in the evenings at home the sun set over the dempsey dumpster. I decided that it was time to leave the city and get back to the lake. Someone said I needed to get a life and I explained that was exactly what I was planning to do. Sunsets are that important! I have an entire shoebox filled with photos of sunsets and everyone is different. I am sorry you no longer have the sunsets. Keep them in your heart. Sincerely, Ezmerelda.
