Freedom (Midnight the Wild Stallion)
Where lakes are like crystal and pastures are green
A herd of wild horses can sometimes be seen
With hooves striking thunder and eyes burning bright
Led by a stallion as black as the night
The cowboys desire him; he’d be such a prize
Because of his courage, endurance and size
And the speed he displays when the cowboys are near
Sometimes it seems Midnight can just disappear
One moment he’s there just a lasso away
Then gone, quick as sunlight at end of the day
The cowboys are baffled but still they must chase
The diminishing sound of hooves winning the race
Midnight is soon legend his fame fairly spreads
Visions of ghost horses in cowboy’s heads
They swear they will catch him or die in the try
They don’t ask for answers or question why
Midnight is elusive and not meant for men
Nature’s his soul mate not fences and pen
Her soft kisses spur him when speed is a must
Leaving those cowboys with nothing but dust
For Midnight is wild like the wind on the plain
Like high flying eagles or storm driven rain
Though men try to catch him and perhaps always will
I’m sure somewhere Midnight is free and wild still

Great imagery, magical and unique in this poem of cowboy life, dreamy
and yet tough, love your descriptive language as in the line: "Like
high flying eagles or storm driven rain..."
Thank you
Thank you oldaspirationsneverdie. This is a rework of an old poem my very young (at the time) son and I wrote for a school project. I kinda liked it for my first ever entry.
Good Piece
Enjoyed this piece, flows well, reads easy, great choice of words! Great work, look forward to more from you.
