McGilluddy's Goose
McGillicuddy’s goose paid a visit yesterday
Like she’s done most days since she first flew the coop,
She swims up and down the river honking merrily away
Or flies to and fro in a low and lazy loop
At first he tried to catch her in his rowboat every day
He swore to us he’d catch her, keep her penned
But we told him not to worry, just to let her have her way
We’d forgive her happy honking, she’s a friend
But Easter is upon us and today she’s not around
There’s no honking, it’s as quiet as quiet can be
And funny how what’s sometimes such an irritating sound
Would be welcome now, for I don’t like what I see
There are poachers on the river looking for some fish to fry
But there’ll be no fish for them, they won’t be hooked
And I’ve got a nasty feeling that maybe the reason why
It’s so quiet today, is ‘cause Gilly’s goose is cooked.

Well done
Well done Lorrie Ette, the imagery is really good, I can see the river in my minds' eye perfectly. You seem to have affection for animals in your writings, definitely no a bad thing. And the humour is what I've come to expect from your poems very tongue in cheek.
Really nice effort. Well done.
Lycon
Thanks Lycon
Yeah, I do so love animals, and Gilly's goose is real. I hope she hangs around for a while yet. I have no idea who really owns her though, McGilluddy just sounded right.
Thanks again ... Lorrie.
Great Poem Lorrie
I loved this one it is my type of humour, good imagination and well written out it was `honkingly` great lol thanks for sharing it from Willow.
Thanks Willow,
There really is a goose, but thankfully no poachers, so Gilly's goose will probably be back again tomorrow. Mind you there is no Gilly either, because I have no idea who really owns her. LOL Just a bit of fun.
Thanks again .. Lorrie
